Jefferson City, Missouri

6/16 – 6/18/11
Jefferson City, the capitol of Missouri, is located in the center of the State.  We made the 1044 mile trip in 3 days.
The Capitol Plaza Hotel is a grand first-class structure two blocks from the Missouri Capitol.  The skylights illuminate the vast interior and the waterfall flanked by glass-enclosed elevators.

Joan shot this night-time view from a lower balcony.  The moving elevators on both sides of the waterfall add a dramatic effect.
The Capitol building is a short walk from the hotel.  Joan stood on an elevated level of the garden outside the Governor's Mansion to take this shot.  Bob is holding Zach's leash to restrain him from diving in to the lilly pond.  Retrievers seem to think that any body of water -- from a puddle to an ocean -- was created for their enjoyment.

Lewis and Clark began their expedition mission is commemorated in this beautiful setting between the Capitol and Governor's Mansion.

Cool shady mulch provided a temporary cover from the high temperature and humidity  for Zach.

In 1950, the Treasury Department commissioned 55 Liberty Bell replicas.  Every state received one and we've seen a number of them as we've traveled the 50 states.  Locate the bell in your state at:

Our travel plans worked around the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Bruce and Marie Morrison.  Joan was Marie's maid of honor.

From left to right:
Marty Sparks, Marie Morrison, Joan and Betty Bartlett were all in the same youth group at Delaware Baptist Church in Syracuse, NY.   All were married by Rev. Calvin Thompson as was another couple at the celebration.
